Beware of attack roosters! Sam the rooster attacked Josephine Gilreath, a pet sitter with “Crabapple Critters”. Bruce and Jodi Smith hired Crabapple critters to take care of their livestock and Gilreath was sent to do the job. When she went in to feed the chickens, Sam the Rooster attacked and she suffered spurring and pecking wounds to her legs. She later developed secondary infections and other complications. Although her attorney, Robert Lamar, argued that she had no choice but to go into the pen, the Court of Appeals disagreed. It found that she had been given numerous warnings by the owners. There was a sign on the property that said, “Caution. Area patrolled by Attack Rooster Security Co.!” Additionally, the Smiths had sent Gilreath a Facebook message that said, “Just throw food in the cages. Rooster will attack!”, The Court decided that Gilreeath had plenty of warning and took the risk of injury by disregarding what the Smiths had told her. The case is Gilreath v. Smith, No. A16A1747.
